ST. Ambrose Laboratory

This department carries out diagnosis on patients as requested by the medical officers. It carries out a minimum of 630 tests per month in;

  • Blood Smear(B/S)
  • Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test(MRDT),
  • Rapid Plasma Reagine (RPR/TPHA),
  • Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG),
  • Helicobacter Pylori (H.P),
  • Hepatitis (Screening and confirmatory),
  • HIV/AIDS testing,
  • widal (for salmonella typhoid),
  • BAT (Brucella Aglutation test),
  • Hematology,
  • Serum CrAg,
  • Rheumatoid factor,
  • Sickle cell testing (side test (film); sodium metabisulphate 2%),
  • Semen analyzers,
  • Hemoglobin estimation,
  • ABO Blood grouping,
  • Random blood sugars.

Working Hours

  • The laboratory is open 24 hours from Monday to Sunday.

Activities

  1. HIV testing (Outreach Activities and Static testing)
  2. Training of Staff’s in Lab Test like TB, HIV among others
  3. Collection of viral load samples & CD4
  4. Health Education on FM Radio station
  5. Collection of Gene X-pert samples,

Success recorded

  • The lab has provided diagnostics that help patients get good treatment outcomes.
  • Staff have been trained in most of the special tests done like semen analysis Continued Professional Development (CPD)
  • Sensitization of the communities about regular hospital lab medical checkups to identify early diseases through radio programs, this has in turn hiked the number of Clients attaining laboratory services.
    Through ABO blood grouping and Rhesus Grouping sensitizations, the community now knows the cause of Haemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN).
  • The Lab has aided proper referrals through the laboratory outcomes for infertility cases to infertility centres.
    People appreciate the importance of knowing their status through HIV testing.
